Press release: http://www.rona.unep.org/news/2016/shared-stewardship-transboundary-waters-stem-further-degradation
Description:
The aim of this interactive marine science-policy session will explore policy options and related information needs addressing key drivers of ocean and coastal degradation as a prerequisite for sustainable development. Particularly, it will focus on SDG14 targets on pollution (14.1) and ecosystem-based management and governance (14.2, 14c). Findings of the first integrated World Ocean Assessment will be introduced, followed by overviews of marine and coastal indicators of TWAP and ongoing efforts to develop a core set of assessment indicators across Regional Seas. Social-science information to support SDG14.2 delivery and performance evaluation will be discussed. The practically and comparability of those indicators will be explored, considering issues of data collation, integration and synthesis of targeted information to support SDG-related policy implementation.

]]>The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) is organized the forum in cooperation with the International Network of Basin Organizations (INBO) to strengthen the transboundary governance of freshwater resources and ensure their sustainability. The forum discussed themes of water quality and ecosystem health, the water-energy-food nexus and adaptation to climate change, environmental laws and regulations, and institutional challenges.
A high-level segment took place on 28 November with ministers, heads of river basin organizations and other guests on the way forward for the sustainable governance and management of freshwater basins.
