TWAP and UNEA Science-Policy Forum | 19-20 May 2016

Launch of TWAP Reports | 19 May 2016

The TWAP Reports will be launched during the UNEA Science-Policy Forum Session 2 | Marine: Identifying policy options and targeted information to address ocean and coastal degradation as a prerequisite for sustainable development (SDG Target 14.1, 14.2, 14c)

Description:

The aim of this interactive marine science-policy session will explore policy options and related information needs addressing key drivers of ocean and coastal degradation as a prerequisite for sustainable development. Particularly, it will focus on SDG14 targets on pollution (14.1) and ecosystem-based management and governance (14.2, 14c). Findings of the first integrated World Ocean Assessment will be introduced, followed by overviews of marine and coastal indicators of TWAP and ongoing efforts to develop a core set of assessment indicators across Regional Seas. Social-science information to support SDG14.2 delivery and performance evaluation will be discussed. The practically and comparability of those indicators will be explored, considering issues of data collation, integration and synthesis of targeted information to support SDG-related policy implementation.
